All Professional Like

This year, I am trying on some entrepreneurial shoes and am making some quilts for sale. This means learning how to sell yourself which, I'm finding, can be a fun adventure. After researching several options on properly labeling quilts and finding nothing that appealed to me, I decided to print my own with my trusty Office Depot label maker and a stamp pad intended for fabric--(not an easy find locally but I bought mine here online)--It worked beautifully! I went ahead and made a bunch all at once for all the great quilts in my head and already appliqued one onto my newly finished crib quilt. Of course it adds one more step into the process of it all, but, when you take the extra time and get to have the exact finished project you want, it's so worth it.

It's Like Television Out There

Drove to Jenny's today.

There are billboards everywhere and while I drive I feel like I'm watching TV.

There's No Place Like...

There's a great restaurant in Los Feliz called There's No Place Like Home. Not only do they have great outdoor seating but they have a wonderfully-decorated fountain in the middle.

................Other People's Workrooms................

I got a book from the library yesterday called Where Women Create filled with images of various artists' workrooms. Tacky was not avoided but I still found each of their spaces enjoyable and inspiring.

The glass jars hold 'wishes' that guests can pick from...silly, yes but those jars are really cool looking. The hat was made for the woman after the birth of her twin grandchildren. I can't get over how cute it is.

Each studio has about 3 or so pages of photographs dedicated to it...the page before this picture was quite unappealing. But then I totally love this picture. I want that parrot chair.

Dishwasher storage! Just don't accidentally turn it on.

And now for the ridiculous...

To conclude, I leave you with my favorite quote in the book.
"Suze Weinberg might not be the only artist in these pages to have a photo of Clay Aiken in her studio, but she's the only one to say so."

Why Don't I Use These More Often?

......................................................................................................................................................

I made myself two homemade bacon-egg-cheese biscuits this morning for breakfast and it made me contemplate, "If people knew how good these biscuits were, they would be jealous of me." I barely managed to get a picture before they were both gone.

Can you find the tortoise?

That's Elvis' crotch on that seat cushion. I made the pillowcase with Elvis' head on the other side and didn't think about what I was doing with the leftover fabric on the back, but I like the placement.

.........Malone

My mom just commissioned Tom Dunne, a local artist from Durham, to paint a portrait of our family dog, Malone. I think he did a great job. Below is a picture of Malone as a puppy (circa 1998).

The scraps left over from my scraps. If I can figure out something to do with them then I'll waste nothing. The rag rug is getting longer...

.....................Modesty in LA

Than and I found this in the cemetery behind the library we always go to. We also spotted Don Knotts, Rodney Dangerfield, Walter Mattau and Mel Torme. Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery

This is the view from my kitchen. If you look closely, you can see into my neighbor's back yard and it looks so cool. I always see this old couple watering back there. I miss having a backyard to sit in.

........................................Wednesday

I started crocheting a rag rug using the scraps leftover from the quilt I just finished. It's really easy and a great way to reduce wasted fabric. It also got me to clean up the floor! The only problem is I have now used up all my scraps and my rug is only about 8 inches long. I guess that means it's time for a new quilt.

Mortoise grubbin'.

The day was beautiful after a week of rain and clouds. Than and I donned shorts and rode our bikes around the neighborhood.

NY FASHION WEEK: Show of the Day

Matthew Williamson always puts on a good show. There's always lots of color and patterns which are an integral part of his brand. No wonder he's also the head designer at Pucci. This opening look made me gasp.

The Joys of a Scrap Bin Continued

NY FASHION WEEK: Show of the Day

Erin Fetherston has not been a favorite of mine but this collection really impressed me. A Nutcracker theme that retains the fluffy girliness she's known for with an edgier graphic color story. She's pushing into a new direction that reminds me of the things I love about Luella (by Luella Bartley) and the fabrics are to die for. I want to buy some swiss dot now.

Ran across this amazing Missoni advertisement while looking through the new Bazaar. I think I stared at it for a good 5 minutes. I want to check out their store in Beverly Hills. Click on picture to see it larger.
