The girls at Kid Craft making leis with fresh flowers. It makes the store smell so good! Megan, the teacher, is amazing with coming up with fun and new craft ideas. These kids don't know how lucky they are!

Just finished decorating the window at Hands on 3rd with the help of Than and Sasha. They're letting me set up front to work on my current and upcoming quilt projects, taking the quilt revolution to the streets! And I get to make awkward eye contact with everyone on 3rd Street. Come say hi!

(Special thanks to Than for making this vid!)

Saw good dogs and bright colors at the LA Marathon on Sunday. It went right by our apartment on Santa Monica Blvd so we were able to roll out of bed and get a look at the first place runners.

Good dog!

Everybody else and their orange peels.

Than and I went to the BUST Craftacular yesterday. My favorite vendor was this artist, Nancy, who did beautiful little illustrations. She also transfered her drawings onto ceramic dishes and bowls -- I got a couple.

My other favorite vendor was Rachelle Vasquez, who crochet-ed animal scarves and I can't stop thinking about how cool they are. Unfortunately she doesn't have any kind of the website or blog. I really wanted the one shaped like a skunk.

Ran across the coolest store yesterday while walking around on 3rd Street in Beverly Hills. Named after the artist, KRISLYN, is this gallery/retail space showcasing the most beautiful home decor. Everything looked like manipulated nature with these kinds of plants and shells that were so quirky and unusual. I've never wanted a specimen box as bad as her's with the craziest kind of life in them.

Saw this at a great store in Los Feliz, LA.
I love what they're about.

Reminds me of the fabulous corsets on Jean Paul Gautier's Fall 08 Couture show. I'm gonna try and forget the overalls, though.

I was so entertained yesterday when I went to drive Than to work and found that he's been making bacon in this completely graffiti-ed brick box! Little things like this building are what can make LA a totally exciting place to live. Not to mention being around so many professional artists who make work look fun, literally!

I finally watched Twilight and now am learning why fans are so crazy about it. Indeed, I was thoroughly entertained. I was even more entertained to watch some extra footage on the bonus features showing that the premiere was in my neighborhood! It's so funny living in LA and suddenly everything to see on TV is familiar, like, you're sure you know exactly where they are.
I particularly love the Diddy Reese and Mr. Noodle showing up in the background of this picture. Growing up (not in LA) you assume red carpet events are these totally glamorous moments when in real life they're just on the street with some makeshift carpet and velvet ropes. This sounds silly but I always thought it was something normal people were excluded from somehow but it's really regular schmos on the street being a part of it as well.Westwood Village is a very popular place for premieres and I've decided I'll have to witness at least one while I'm here so close. I don't know if I could ever get wrapped up in the whole autograph/fan craze thing but I wouldn't mind screaming a little in good fun.

A little gem found in the neighborhood this afternoon. I hope the guy who drives this truck is actually a pool boy!

We did a big job this week setting up balloons for a "General Hospital" carnival film sequence. The scene was shot over 4 days and meant we had to be there at 5 am everyday to set up. It was really fun to see and I'm so happy this iPhone I got can take such great pictures.

Good Things

Spending time at the Hollywood Bowl....

...watching Tegan and Sara...

...and Death Cab for Cutie. Their finale had fireworks that synced up with their song "Transatlanticism". It was mind-blowing!

Mainstreet USA in Disneyland. Went for the night's fireworks and festivities on Friday.

I love these new light-up balloons! And they constantly change colors. It's like a swarm of jellyfish floating around in the night and every once in a while one breaks off from the pack and goes in a new direction.

If I ever find a real town that looks like this, I'm moving there immediately.

Groups gathered quickly around UCLA Medical Building after word of Michael Jackson's death spread. The hospital is about 2 block from where I was working and you could tell something was up not 20 minutes after he was pronounced dead. There's was about 100 people already there and rumors were spreading that they would have to close Westwood Village. I got out of there while I still could. I can't imagine how many people are there now.

Good Things

Watching the sun go down on Venice Beach.
