1940s quilt
My neighbor - and constant inspiration mentor - gave me this unfinished quilt top from her personal collection: a 1940's patchwork piece procured from an vintage store in Dallas. Each square is hand-sewn and, obviously, a huge undertaking. What I don't understand is why this person 50 years ago never chose to finish their work? Luckily for me, that is where I come in. I now have picked an appropriate backing fabric and am in the process of hand-quilting the piece. This is my first time hand-quilting. It is not the fairly simple process I thought it would be.
Referencing Ellen Pahl's Ultimate Visual Guide has helped me to develop a good technique. My fingers are half poked to death, but I'm finding it to be a very rewarding experience!
