Jenny's Birthday

Jenny and I had plans to go see Confession of a Shopaholic but instead went to the MAC counter across the street on the main Hollywood drag. While walking the third floor, I got a shot of the El Capitan Theater that gave me the idea to include more sparkle in my life. Jenny got her makeup done while I admired colors and watched fashion shows on her iPhone. The night continued with homemade tacos and ended with a trip to The Alcove, in Los Feliz, for a bite of cake. I got the tiramisu and Jenny got Godiva chocolate. It was worth the tummy ache that followed!

Valentine's Day

Not only did boss lady, Cyndy, let me leave early on Balloon Celebration's busiest day of the year but she also made me this balloon to give to Than. It's called a 'Gumball' and it is one of my favorite balloons that we make in the store. Wrapped in the bag are a dozen chocolate chip cookies from Diddy Reese.






















This morning we made a giant cupcake for another perfectly manicured lawn in Beverly Hills. Matt, the reigning sculpture king, is teaching me in the ways of balloon building and I helped blow all these up and add sprinkles and glitter to the top. I love how he even thinks to put an orange balloon inside the yellow balloon to make it look even more like a flame on the candle. Another rich birthday girl satisfied. I rode home in the back of the van.

7 am

I had to be at work at 7 am this morning and I took this shot around 6:30 on my bike. It was also about 40 degrees which is freezing to us spoiled brats. If you look far enough you can see the mountains, which are covered with snow.



Here's a better shot of the mountains. Than took this on Monday after several days of heavy rain. Usually it's so smoggy you can't see that far and this was the first day that I realized you could see the Hollywood sign from our street.

The Joys of a Scrap Bin

My friend, Jenny, works at a fabric store in Los Feliz. She discovered this treasure in the scrap fabric bin and we have both been obsessing over it ever since. It's one of those prints where you can always see something new. I did a little digging and found it was Alexander Henry for Home Collection, and Google gave me a random website that was selling it. They also have a baller fabric called Midnight Snack that I couldn't resist!

The Rescuers

Than and I watched The Rescuers (1977) last night. I loved the color scheme on Medusa, the fire-haired villian with giant pet alligators. I freeze-framed the movie and put together some color chips. The best part about doing an exercise like this is that it helps me to think about other colors besides the ones I always go to.

Quilt Top Finished

The lovely thing about making a crib quilt is the speed in which it can be finished. This top took me about 4 days. I worked hard to stay true to my original marker design but of course, once all the squares were done, a few needed rearranging. I've figured out how it will be quilted already and I'll be starting on that as soon as my 90" x 40 yd roll of batting comes in the mail. It's way cheaper to order a large quantity at once and saves the pain of trying to deal with Jo-Ann's -a place I've vowed never to return to.

Balloons

I just had a trial day for a position as a Balloonist at Balloon Celebrations, a nearby store in Westwood Village. Not only is their work impressive but so is their website and I'm happy to see that they're properly represented as the talented people they are. I really hope they give me a job.

Everything Looks Better in Gradation

These advertisements for the new Grammy Museum have been on every street-lamp around town since November. There are about 6 or so versions with different artists showcased, but it's Beyonce's picture that I love the most. Every time I pass her, I scheme on ways of stealing a copy for myself but nothing has seemed feasible aside from catching a man in the act of taking one down and bribing him to give it to me. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.
